About Us
Diamond Light Source is one of the world's most advanced scientific facilities. We are home to the UK's synchrotron light source, a giant microscope producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. Our work probes the structure and composition of matter, driving innovation in areas from vaccines to nanotechnology.
Currently, we are undertaking a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II. This upgrade will include a new machine and beamlines, along with enhancements to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities, and computing, ultimately creating an even more brilliant light source at higher energy.
About The Role
We have an opportunity for a Radio Frequency Engineer or Senior RF Engineer to support the RF Group. The role requires expertise in designing, developing, operating, and maintaining RF high and low power systems.
You Will Contribute To The Overall Work Of The RF Group By:
1. Developing new RF equipment, including assembly and testing.
2. Managing and controlling inventory of the RF laboratory and RF test equipment calibration.
3. Managing small R&D projects for new products and systems.
4. Studying and developing projects for future upgrades such as amplifier and electronics upgrades, waveguides, coaxial transmission lines, high power circulators/loads, and supervision equipment.
5. Inspecting, accepting, testing, installing, and maintaining high-power RF equipment.
6. Liaising with Diagnostics, Accelerator Physics, and Operations teams for diagnosis, repair, and development of new systems.
7. Ensuring safe working practices are followed.
8. Participating in setup and preparation for beam operation and beam-off periods, including RF and general operation shifts.
Applicants will be considered for either the RF Engineer or Senior RF Engineer position based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
About You
You should hold a degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., RF or Electronics Engineering) or demonstrate equivalent experience.
Required Experience:
* Design, production, and testing of RF circuits.
* Supervision of procurement contracts.
* High-power RF measurement and data analysis.
* Hands-on experience with RF transmission lines such as waveguides and high-power coaxial assemblies.
Beneficial knowledge/experience includes:
* High power solid-state and/or IOT amplifiers.
* Particle accelerator RF systems.
* Electrical and electronic fault finding in complex systems.
You should demonstrate a willingness to undertake various tasks, a desire to learn and face new challenges, and possess good interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues.
Benefits
Diamond offers an exceptional benefits package supporting work/life balance, including 26 days of annual leave plus Christmas closure, public holidays, two volunteering days, and flexible working hours.
