To work within the Vascular POD (Point of Delivery) to facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey by ensuring that co‑ordinated and streamlined administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.
Provide administrative support to clinical staff within the Surgical PODs including Consultants, Nurse Specialists and Junior Doctors ensuring effective co‑ordination of their diaries etc. This will include cancellation and re‑instating of clinics in line with planned and unplanned leave.
Support the clinical team, Service Unit Managers and Patient Access Team in ensuring the specialties are able to deliver safe and effective services whilst also ensuring compliance with contractual access targets eg. the 18 weeks Referral to Treatment target (RTT).
Main duties of the job
The role involves ensuring patient appointments are scheduled promptly and in line with guidelines, adapting appointment slot types and clinic templates to meet service demand, and monitoring clinics to maintain full utilisation. The post holder will oversee patient pathways, validate and manage the PTL, and book events to minimise waiting times. They will coordinate theatre bookings to achieve maximum efficiency, arrange surgical procedures and pre‑assessment appointments, and maintain oversight of patient journeys to ensure diagnostics and follow‑up appointments are completed appropriately.
The position also requires effective communication with clinicians, nursing teams, administrative staff and senior management, alongside responsibility for typing clinical letters and providing rota coordination support for middle‑grade and foundation doctors.
Qualifications
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy at GCSE or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience of working within the NHS.
* 3 years previous NHS administration experience.
