This is your opportunity to join the nursing team of the South Wales Blood and Marrow Transplantation Programme here at the University Hospital of Wales. As a complex, expanding and critical service we are recruiting a band 6 apheresis nurse to join the BMT team.
Specialist training and support will be given to the successful candidate.
he South Wales Blood and Marrow Transplantation Programme is a truly multi-professional team, in which this role plays a crucial part. The team includes our Advanced Nurse Practitioners, haematology/BMT Consultants, pharmacist, dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapist, clinical psychologists and research nurses, alongside admin support. Together we have a holistic approach to the care of our patients focusing on their individual needs and priorities, with the aim of optimising their fitness before, during and after stem cell transplantation.
Main duties of the job
The South Wales Blood and Marrow Transplantation Programme provides specialist, tertiary care to patients across South, West and Mid-Wales. Each year, over the programme we transplant approximately 150 patients inclusive of autologous (approx. 80), allogeneic (approx. 60) stem cells and CAR-T (approx. 12-15) per annum. as well as providing care for related stem cell donors.
The successful individual will be part of our apheresis nursing team undertaking apheresis procedures. The apheresis team also have nurse led clinics where patients are assessed and counselled prior to their peripheral stem cell collection. A large element of the role is involves setting standards of practice and quality and service improvement by auditing practice, presenting data, writing and implementing documents and teaching.
