Field Studies Tutor at Leeson House Field Studies Centre
About the Centre
Leeson House is a Dorset Council owned Field Studies Centre on the Jurassic coast of Dorset. The Centre sleeps up to 100 people in total in a fabulous 17 th Century mansion, with around 7 acres of varied grounds. As well as a very full programme of residential school visits from across the UK, we have a large number of day visits, all of whom make great use of our amazing position in the heart of this area, with very regular visits to world famous fieldwork sites such as Studland, Old Harry Rocks, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. We work with children and young people of all ages, from reception up to University.
About the role
As a tutor at Leeson House Field Studies Centre you’ll be part of a small, friendly team with 21 staff in total. Working closely alongside four other tutors and the Deputy Centre Manager, you’ll lead activities both on our 7-acre site and in the surrounding area. During quieter times, you’ll help design new sessions, maintain resources and equipment and contribute to the development of the Centre’s facilities and grounds.
You’ll get to share your passion for outdoor learning with children and young people while working in one of the country’s leading field studies centres. You’ll plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality fieldwork and outdoor learning sessions for visiting groups, from KS1 through to A Level. Whilst we would expect candidates to have a particular teaching specialism (of subject or of agegroup) in which they may eventually take the lead, we require our tutors to work across the age and subject range here, after a period of training.
This is a rewarding role in a supportive environment in a beautiful part of the UK. The role is available immediately, though we envisage that the successful candidate will start some time between October and the start of January 2026.
As an added incentive, the successful candidate will also have the option of affordable on-site accommodation in a shared bungalow – available for Centre staff on a temporary or permanent basis.
About you
* you’ll be an experienced outdoor educator with a real enthusiasm for engaging children and young people
* you’ll be confident leading sessions across a range of ages and subjects, with training and induction provided in the areas you are less familiar with.
* you’ll bring energy, adaptability and the physical ability needed to access our teaching sites.
* you’ll ideally be able to drive a minibus (or be willing to train) and have access to transport when required.
* you’ll be happy working flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, with TOIL given in return.
