About the Role Apple Recruitment Services are delighted to be recruiting for a Governor Maintenance Trainee to join a well-established engineering team responsible for the safe and reliable operation of gas distribution equipment and assets. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist technical skills through a structured programme of mentored, hands-on work alongside external training and assessment. The successful candidate will work towards a recognised vocational qualification and future progression to a Governor Maintenance Craftsperson / Technician role. You will support the maintenance, operation and emergency repair of pressure control equipment, safety devices, customer metering and telemetry systems across the distribution network. What You’ll Be Doing You will gain practical experience across a wide range of engineering and operational activities, including: ● Commissioning, maintaining, testing, servicing, repairing and replacing gas network and customer pressure control and metering equipment ● Supporting the upkeep of associated safety devices and remote telemetry monitoring systems ● Participating in live gas operations using safe systems of work ● Responding to emergencies and taking part in out-of-hours standby on a rota basis ● Supporting plant and asset protection activities ● Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and partner organisations ● Participating in ongoing training and development to build technical and safety competence What We’re Looking For Essential ● Gas Safe Registration (GSR) for core domestic or commercial gas safety ● Minimum 1 year hands-on plant or mechanical maintenance experience OR 2 years working within an engineering environment ● Experience working in line with safe systems of work, procedures and processes ● Full valid driving licence ● Strong safety awareness and professional approach to work ● Good organisational skills with a positive attitude and willingness to learn ● Ability to work effectively as part of a small team ● Good written and verbal communication skills Desirable ● GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at Grade C or above ● GSR for testing or emergency ● Relevant NVQ Level 2 engineering qualification (or equivalent) ● Experience responding to equipment or system faults ● Practical mechanical aptitude What You’ll Gain ● Structured training and mentoring ● Opportunity to achieve a recognised vocational qualification ● Clear pathway for progression within engineering ● Performance-related bonus ● Supportive team environment focused on safety, professionalism and continuous improvement How to Apply: If you wish to apply or would like more information, please email your CV in Microsoft Word format to Patricia at patricia.oneill@applerecruitment.com Applicants must ensure their CV is accurate and up to date, including full employment history, academic achievements, and contact details.
