Overview
We are currently seeking a Physics/General Science teacher (full-time - 1 year Maternity Cover) from 5th January 2026 to 18th December 2026.
Currently, there is one Physics post available within the school and the successful candidate will be expected to teach General Science courses from Primary 5 level to the end of S1 and Physics up to and including Advanced Higher level, where required. The successful candidate will be directly responsible to our Director of Studies.
We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic, committed, appropriately qualified teachers who are registered with the GTCS.
Among the key qualities which we will seek is evidence of:
* expert, dynamic teaching at all levels up to and including Advanced Higher
* the ability to work professionally in a team
* a willingness to learn through continuing professional development
* a commitment to the extra-curricular activities programme of the school
It would also be highly desirable if candidates showed the ability to teach Practical Electronics at National 5 Level.
Responsibilities
All teachers at Clifton Hall should accept responsibilities for the following:
* Careful planning and preparation for effective delivery of the curriculum throughout the academic year.
* Setting high expectations for standard of work and behaviour in the classroom.
* Regular assessment of work.
* Writing constructive and informative comments on reports to parents.
* Keeping abreast of curricular developments and teaching methods.
* Arranging stimulating displays of children’s work, including occasional contributions to assemblies.
* Attendance at assemblies, staff meetings, parents' meetings and supporting school functions.
* Being available from time to time to talk formally and informally to parents when they are in school.
* Ensuring their own punctuality.
* Taking an active pastoral interest in the lives of all children at Clifton Hall and contributing to extra-curricular clubs.
* Contributing to the formation of school policies.
Remuneration
The salary offered is in accordance with the national recommended pay scale.
Holidays
Teachers are entitled to normal school holidays. Currently the school operates for 177 full days and two in service days per annum.

The School
Clifton Hall School is an Independent Scottish Secondary, Primary and Nursery school for children between the ages of three and eighteen where:

The school is a fully independent all-through day school and is a member of the Scottish Council for Independent Schools (SCIS), with around 400 pupils, having two nursery years, seven ‘single class’ primary years and six ‘double form’ secondary years. Class sizes will not exceed twenty four and most exam stage classes are significantly smaller in size. The school broadly follows the 3-18 Curriculum for Excellence guidelines and received an excellent HMI Standard Inspection Report in May 2007 and in a QUIPE inspection in 2017.
There are currently thirty-nine full-time teaching staff and six full time classroom assistants. The Headteacher, Jill Drummond, is responsible for this appointment.
