Overview
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join a growing infrastructure consultancy, delivering ground investigation services on nationally significant civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This role offers ownership of full project life cycles—from mobilisation through to reporting and commercial wrap-up—across a range of sites throughout the UK.
Ideal for someone with a strong geotechnical background and the drive to lead technical teams, manage commercial performance, and support the next generation of engineering professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
Plan, supervise, and manage ground investigation (GI) projects from award to close
Coordinate site activities, staffing, equipment, and logistics
Oversee data collection, site records, and factual report preparation
Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are followed on all sites
Lead client communication throughout project delivery
Track project progress, timelines, and key deliverables
Commercial & Operational Oversight
Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and cost control
Monitor financial performance and ensure project profitability
Assist with commercial forecasting and invoicing
Review supplier performance and support subcontractor management
Assist in preparing tenders, bids, and technical proposals
Team & Client Leadership
Supervise field engineers and technical staff across multiple sites
Provide mentoring, training, and performance feedback to junior engineers
Maintain strong client relationships and represent the business in meetings
Contribute to the development of repeat business and framework growth
Requirements
Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering or related field
Experience managing ground investigation or site-based geotechnical projects
Excellent understanding of GI specifications, BS5930, EC7, and UK H&S requirements
Strong financial management skills and commercial awareness
Capable of managing field teams and multiple concurrent projects
Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of GI data/reporting tools an advantage
Full UK driving licence
CSCS card (manager/supervisor level preferred)
SMSTS, First Aid, or other H&S certifications (desirable)
