Health & Safety Manager Part-Time, 21 Hours | 3 – 6 Month Contract | £450 per day | Merton, Hybrid As the Street Cleansing Health & Safety Manager, you will act as the lead officer for all H&S compliance across street cleansing operations. You’ll develop and implement safety policies, conduct risk assessments, deliver training, and ensure depot operations align with all statutory and corporate safety requirements. This is a hands-on, operational role suited to someone confident working across depot and street-based environments, engaging closely with frontline teams. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all health & safety compliance across street cleansing operations. Develop and implement clear safety policies for manual handling, waste management, chemical handling (COSHH), and equipment use. Carry out risk assessments, workplace inspections, and hazard identification activities. Investigate incidents and near misses, producing clear reports and corrective action plans. Deliver H&S training, toolbox talks, manual handling training, and maintain all training records. Oversee safe storage and control of hazardous substances. Maintain comprehensive documentation of audits, assessments, training, and inspections. Work collaboratively with operational managers to embed a strong safety culture and ensure staff compliance. Support depot health and safety oversight alongside senior leadership. Essential skills & experience: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S qualification. Solid understanding of local authority H&S legislation and codes of practice. Experience conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations. Strong presentation and communication skills, able to simplify technical information. Ability to manage a varied workload and meet tight deadlines. Confident using Microsoft Office with strong record-keeping skills. Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend occasional out-of-hours meetings.
