Job Summary

The Service Lead will monitor and maintain the professional standards required through leadership and management of Hospice services, creating a supportive and unified team whose prime purpose is to provide safe, effective care to those who need it across all Hospice services. The post holder will play a key role in the Clinical Governance processes including the review, development and implementation of policies and evidence‑based practice required for the safe, efficient and effective day‑to‑day operation of the Hospice services and will work closely with the Head of Clinical Services and Service Leads across the organisation to ensure multi‑professional collaborative working.

Full Time 37.5 hours / 5 days per week

Band 7 £47,810 per annum (unsocial hours enhancements are paid in addition to basic salary)


Main Duties of the Job

The Service Lead will monitor and maintain professional standards through leadership and management of Hospice services, creating a supportive and unified team. Job Responsibilities

* Be a visible and approachable leader who clearly demonstrates the Hospice vision, values and service equity at all times.
* Build and sustain an environment that actively fosters partnership working with patients and those important to them.
* Maintain and develop the skills of all clinical staff through professional leadership and management of the inpatient unit team, creating a supportive and unified team.
* Continue the post holder’s responsibilities as described in the Main Duties section.


Person Specification


Essential Knowledge & Skills

* Knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) KLOEs for hospices
* Lead in challenging situations, both clinically and managerially
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
* Time management and workload prioritisation
* Ability to motivate and develop staff
* Excellent record keeping with data analysis, report writing and presentation skills
* Ability to develop policies to enhance patient care


Desirable Knowledge & Skills

* Experience of establishment and budget management
* Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act in practice, including DoLs and the new Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS)

Essential Requirements

* A full UK driving licence subject to the Equality Act 2010 Enhanced and Adult Barring Check
* Minimum 5 years post‑registration experience
* Manager in a patient care setting
* Change management experience
* Audit and patient feedback experience
* Experience of managing and developing staff, including undertaking appraisals and supervision


Desirable Requirements

* Experience of working with palliative patients
* Experience of working with volunteers


Qualifications


Essential

* NMC Level 1 Registration
* Degree level qualification
* Palliative Care Qualification
* Leadership / Management training / qualification
* Enhanced / Advanced Communication Skills training
* Teaching or Mentorship qualification


Desirable

* Masters degree or working towards it


Disclosure and Barring Service Check
