Business Unit Leadership within low to medium volume Manufacturing & Assembly
A well-established, multi-site manufacturing group is seeking a commercially savvy and operationally driven Business Unit Director to lead and develop one of its key UK based divisions.
This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, profitability and structured reporting into the parent Group.
You will own the business unit – not just manage the production floor.
The Role
As Business Unit Director, you will take end-to-end responsibility for:
* Operational performance
* Financial delivery
* Team leadership
* Continuous improvement strategy
* Group-level reporting and commercial transparency
You will lead a machining and assembly focused production facility, ensuring output, quality, safety and cost control are aligned with strategic and financial targets.
Key Accountabilities
Full operational P&L Ownership
* Responsibility for revenue, cost base, margin and EBITDA performance
* Labour efficiency, material usage and overhead control
* Budget setting, forecasting and financial planning
* Driving profitability and sustainable growth
Operational Leadership
* Oversight of all machining and production activities
* Delivery of OTIF performance and quality standards
* Capacity planning and resource optimisation
* Reducing downtime and improving throughput
Group Reporting & Governance
* Structured monthly reporting into Group leadership
* Performance analysis across operational and financial KPIs
* Data‑led decision making and performance visibility
* Contribution to strategic planning and investment decisions
Team & Culture
* Leadership of engineers, technicians and production teams
* Building accountability and high‑performance culture
* Talent development and succession planning
* Embedding lean principles across the business unit
* Identifying margin improvement opportunities
* Driving efficiency, workflow optimisation and waste reduction
Qualifications and Experience
* Senior operational leadership experience within a machining / CNC manufacturing / Assembly environment
* Demonstrable track record of operational P&L ownership
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret and act on financial data
* Experience reporting into group or board‑level stakeholders
* Proven ability to drive operational improvement and cultural accountability
* Degree qualified (Engineering/Manufacturing preferred)
* Lean / Six Sigma exposure advantageous
