Job Title: Mechanical Fitter (Lead pump & Salt water AP Trainee) Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth (HMNBP) Service Area: Service Delivery Hours of Work: 37 Per week What You’ll be doing: This is a shore-based role working as part of the saltwater services team, who support the repair, maintenance and operation of the waterfront assets used for the movement and docking of vessels. Working as part of a team, you’ll be carrying out routine planned maintenance, reactive repairs and testing on mechanical systems, machinery and high-volume saltwater pumps. As Trainee Mechanical Fitter (Saltwater Systems), you’ll also be required to work in Confined Spaces, and underground installations (CS training will be provided if required). Individual must be prepared to be trained as a Lead pump fitter, then, leading to being trained as Saltwater co-ordinating AP. Also, you’ll be able to carry out basic mechanical fault finding and rectification and be confident in providing detailed defect reports to the team manager or a representative from the Chief engineer’s department. You’ll Have: You’ll need to have completed an appropriate trade apprenticeship or Naval equivalent qualifications and have the ability to read and understand technical / design drawings and maintenance manuals for the maintenance and repair of assets. With experience in heavy industrial plant or the marine maintenance and repair industry (or exposure to as a trainee), you’ll be confident to work at heights, in confined spaces, and have a flexible approach to work due to tidal restraints. You’ll also be able to work with minimum supervision following comprehensive training and be conversant in presenting and communicating to a variety of stakeholders. About you: By remaining flexible to an ever-changing changing environment, you will employ a customer centric ‘can do’ attitude within the team ensuring that the customer’s needs are met. Lastly, you will demonstrate excellent collaboration with various internal and external customers which will be critical for creating a team delivery ethos and ethic. You’ll also ensure engineering practice is used for the maintenance, overhaul, repair, Installation and testing of Mechanical equipment, machinery and systems.
