About The Role
Occupational Therapist in Housing
* Fixed Term / Secondment, Full Time
* £37,185 to £50,081 per annum
* Location: Chelmsford
* Working Style: Community-based worker (office based typically 1 day per week dependent on business need)
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity. It offers a chance for a housing Occupational Therapist with experience in major adaptations to support local district and borough councils. You will work alongside Environmental Health and Housing Officers to facilitate safe and early discharge from hospital, residential/nursing placements, and hospices.
This role involves working with adults and children with life-limiting conditions and injuries to prevent unsuitable home environments and delays in discharge due to housing issues.
Your responsibilities include:
1. Completing holistic assessments considering all housing factors.
2. Collaborating with health colleagues to process referrals for early discharge.
3. Referring to universal services and liaising with other agencies.
4. Addressing needs related to impairments through equipment, support, and signposting.
5. Recommending property types, adaptations, and equipment based on assessments, considering policies and legislation.
6. Supporting recommendations requiring specialist input.
7. Working with Housing Officers on Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) recommendations.
8. Ensuring effective referral progression for adaptations.
9. Developing innovative housing solutions to reduce hospital and care stays.
10. Managing cases assessed by other health or social care OTs to support housing officers.
About You
You should have a degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy, current HCPC registration, and experience in major adaptations. You must understand relevant legislation and develop strong partnerships within the community. Confidence in person-centred and positive risk-taking approaches is essential. A valid driving license and mobility means to travel across Essex are required.
Employment requires registration with the DBS update service.
