Community Staff Nurse (Learning Disability)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Mid and North Hampshire Division to appoint a motivated and dynamic Community Staff Nurse (Learning Disability) in the North and West Hampshire Community Learning Disability Team.

This role is perfect for a passionate newly qualified nurse or a nurse looking to work in the community for the first time. You will be managing your own caseload and working independently across multiple clinical areas of practice. You will get the opportunity to build a wide range of experience working with different people with a learning disability with a variety of complex health issues. Every day will be different, and you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in peoples lives.


Main duties of the job

We have bases in Winchester, Basingstoke and Totton. We can be flexible on where you are based. You will be delivering nursing services to people with learning disabilities within the Mid & North of the county.

You will receive supervision, support, and inspiration from senior, experienced nurses in the Learning Disability Service. You will deliver an evidence-based, person-centred nursing service that meets the needs of this complex client group.

You will play a vital role as a Community Staff Nurse in a forward thinking and innovative team. You will work closely with the nursing and multi-disciplinary team. There will be opportunities for continued professional development and reflective practice sessions. We are passionate about providing opportunities for our nurses to develop their skills. You will have opportunities to work closely with different professions across a wide range of teams supporting people with complex health needs. You will have the opportunity to supervise others and chair meetings.

You will need to demonstrate effective nursing and inter-personal skills, good communication and presentation skills, be organised, and self-motivated. A car driver is essential given the large geographical area this post covers.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse


Experience

* Experience of working with people with a learning disability, preferable within a community team setting.
* Ability to communicate effectively with people who have difficulty understanding and has effective interpersonal skills (active listening, building empathy).
* Evidence of ability to work in a way which is organised, flexible and person-centred and responsive to the needs of individual service users.
* Ability to work under supervision.
* Evidence of effective team working and leadership skills.
* Working knowledge of the application of the NMC Code of Conduct.
* Access to a vehicle for work purposes and ability to drive.
* Experience of RIO computer system.
* Awareness of a variety of communication techniques.
* Awareness of Safeguarding Adults and Children.
* Awareness of the Learning Disability Services clinical areas of practice.
* Evidence of ability to take active steps to develop a service which is flexible and responsible to the needs of individual service users.
* Evidence about clarity of the level of performance expected and how to support self and others to achieve this.
