Sport Wales embraces a blended approach to work, where you will be able to split your time between the office and home. Sport Wales careers are funded by Welsh Government and the National Lottery. Sport Wales strongly advocates continuous learning and improvement. On your very first day of work, you will embark on a tailored induction programme and will be offered all the essential training to get you started. Joining Sport Wales means joining a culture of learning and continuous professional development. Job specific training, lunchtime workshops, coaching and mentoring, improving Welsh language skills and long term study opportunities are all part of being on our team.
How you’ll contribute
As Procurement Lead, you’ll play a key role in ensuring Sport Wales secures the right goods and services to deliver its ambitions for sport and physical activity across Wales. You’ll lead and oversee procurement activity across the organisation, providing expert advice and practical support to colleagues to ensure processes are compliant, proportionate and deliver value for money. Acting as a trusted subject‑matter expert, you’ll help embed good procurement practice and commercial awareness at all levels of the organisation.
You will take ownership of planning and delivering regulated procurements, managing the procurement pipeline and contracts register, and supporting effective supplier and contract management. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, you’ll balance governance and assurance with a collaborative, solutions‑focused approach that enables delivery. Through clear guidance, training and coaching, you’ll build confidence and capability across teams, helping procurement to be seen as an enabler rather than a barrier.
Crucially, you’ll ensure procurement activity reflects Sport Wales’ wider responsibilities and values, embedding social value, sustainability and community benefits into sourcing decisions. You’ll support the organisation to meet its Welsh public‑sector duties, contributing to transparent, ethical and socially responsible procurement that delivers positive economic, social and environmental outcomes for Wales. In doing so, you’ll help strengthen governance, manage risk and enhance the organisation’s reputation as a responsible public body.
Who you’ll work with
You will work closely with colleagues across Sport Wales to support a wide range of procurement activity. Acting as a central point of expertise, you’ll collaborate with budget holders, project leads and subject‑matter experts to shape procurement approaches that are proportionate, compliant and aligned to organisational priorities, providing clear guidance and practical support throughout the process.
Externally, you’ll build effective working relationships with suppliers, delivery partners and public‑sector networks across Wales. You’ll engage confidently with the wider Welsh procurement landscape.
What you’ll need
You bring experience of working in a procurement or commercial role, ideally within a public‑sector or regulated environment, with a good understanding of procurement legislation, governance and best practice. You will be confident leading or supporting competitive procurement processes, managing contracts or supplier relationships, and applying proportionate, value‑for‑money approaches in practice.
You will have strong stakeholder‑management and communication skills, with the ability to explain procurement requirements clearly and pragmatically to non‑specialists. A collaborative, solutions‑focused approach is essential, alongside the confidence to provide professional challenge where needed. You should also share Sport Wales’ commitment to social value, sustainability and ethical procurement, and be motivated by contributing to positive outcomes for Wales through your work.
Language skills (bilingualism & multilingualism) are desirable characteristics across all roles within Sport Wales. We are passionate about promoting the use of Welsh language and, as part of our development programme, give everyone the opportunity to learn Welsh if they wish to do so, offering learning programmes from beginner right through to fluent.
