Overview

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 was a landmark piece of legislation aimed at protecting the human rights of some of the most vulnerable members of our society by supporting them to make their own decisions or, where they lack the capacity, providing a framework for making decisions in their best interests.

Successful candidates will have a strong, sound working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). If you are a qualified nurse, social worker or allied healthcare professional with a minimum of two years post‑qualifying experience and you have a passion for educating, learning and a desire to protect patients and assist colleagues to ensure the law is applied correctly and consistently, then this is the job for you.

This is a trust‑wide position and may require flexibility in terms of work location. The MCA and DoLS educator is responsible for delivering MCA and DoLS training to Trust staff, commissioned partners and supporting clinical teams in applying the Mental Capacity Act.


Responsibilities

* Deliver training agenda to time and target
* Deliver effective training in relation to MCA and DoLS
* Function as a resource for all aspects regarding MCA and DoLS
* Provide specialist support and advice to the multidisciplinary team in the application of MCA/DoLS
* Support the audit programme in a monthly cycle and support care groups in addressing areas of poor practice
* Assist the MCA and DoLS Lead Practitioner to assess and identify improvements in the application of the MCA and DoLS into clinical practice


Qualifications

* Qualified nurse, social worker or allied healthcare professional
* Minimum two years post‑qualifying experience
* Strong, sound working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
* Passion for educating, learning and protecting patients and ensuring the law is applied correctly and consistently

Please note that DBS checks may be required. For the standard role the cost is currently £27.38. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in one payment or over a six‑month period.
