The services of Hays have been retained by our client to recruit a Building Control Officer on a temporary contract basis for a period of 6 months with the possibility of further extension.
Your new role
You will work as part of the Building Control Team to fulfil the Council’s statutory duties regarding the administration and enforcement of Building Regulations and allied legislation to ensure buildings are safe, healthy, accessible and sustainable for current and future generations.This will include:
1. To carry out the range of duties and tasks associated with the administration, application and enforcement of The Building Regulations, British Standards and Codes of Practice and allied statutory legislation.
2. The validation of new applications.
3. To carry out Plan assessments and Site inspections of the full range of applications.
4. To assist with the inspection and enforcement of Dangerous Buildings and Structures

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you must possess:A third level qualification ( HNC/NHD, Level 4, Degree) in a relevant discipline, Building Engineering and Management, Architect, Structural engineer, Civil engineer, etc.Or;Full Corporate Membership of an appropriate building related professional institution or association such as RIBA, CABE, RICS (Building Surveying/ Control), MICE, MIStructE, CIOB or CIAT, and;Be able to demonstrate that you have at least two years’ experience of:
5. Working in the building/construction industry in either the public or private sector.
6. Interpreting working drawings and specifications.
7. Applying knowledge and understanding of current Building Regulations to determine thepliance of proposals and successfully enforcing and remedying breaches.
8. Forming effective and professional relationships with stakeholders, including contractors, consultants and members of the public.
If you do not possess a relevant degree / professional qualification, you will need to have four years’ experience in the areas outlined above.Additionally, you should have:Knowledge and understanding of the Building Regulations and allied legislation and statutory obligations.A full current driving licence valid in the UK and access to a vehicle.
