* Hold an up-to-date Gas Safe domestic and commercial qualification (training will be funded for this as necessary).

* Are available to participate in a mandatory out of hours 1 week in 5 ‘on-call’ rota

This is a full-time, open-ended position of 35 hours per week. Hours of work normally will be 8am to 4pm, with one hour for lunch.
Starting Salary: £33,348.52 per annum rising to £34,290.40 on 1st August after 1 years full service.
The salary above includes an allowance of £3,389.52 per annum, paid in equal monthly instalments, to cover the following:
* You will be required to work 1 week in every 5 on the on-call rota: -
o This will require you to work an additional hour each day between 4pm and 5pm, Monday to Friday,
o Stand by and call out weekends 8am Saturday to 8am Monday. Any additional work carried out during your call out will also attract an overtime payment in line with the University’s Grade 1-4 Enhanced Payment Policy

Job Description
Job Purpose
Heating Engineers/plumbers play an essential role within an enthusiastic and innovative Direct Labour Organisation (DLO), delivering reactive maintenance activities, planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, and out-of-hours support for all mechanical operations and systems across the Estate.
Duties and Responsibilities
Main duties
* Undertake adaption/repair and reactive, planned, and preventative maintenance work, including systems checks and when necessary, problem diagnostics for all mechanical building services installed throughout the University’s estate in compliance with current regulations.
* Act as the first responder for all commercial, domestic gas and Carbon Monoxide (CO) emergencies to confirm evacuation or re habitation in accordance with Gas Safe Training and CMDDA1.
* You will be part of a mandatory out of hours 1 week in 5 ‘on-call’ rota
* To undertake first response fault finding and provide clear updates on remedial works for installations including but not limited to: -
General Duties
* commercial, domestic, plumbing and boiler maintenance breakdowns,
* LTHW
* CWS/DHWS
* heating/ventilation,
* natural gas systems
* equipment associated with mechanical building services.
* steam raising plant, associated controls, pipework, and delivery systems (additional steam training will be provided as necessary).
* To be able to trace faults on control panels and associated equipment, working with Building Services Engineers to rectify faults.
* Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures. Undertaking task specific (dynamic) risk assessments and method statements, before carrying out maintenance and adaptation work, reporting any potentially unsafe working conditions.
* Ensure all necessary paperwork required both manually or electronically is completed accurately and in a timely manner in line with set timescales (Service Level Agreements).
* To attend, as identified and by agreement, development, and training courses to keep abreast of new industry best practice and statutory regulations.
* On behalf of the University to act as a competent person for all works defined in and associated with Safe Systems of Work, including but not withstanding mechanical services and compressed air isolation and de isolations.
* Establish working relationships with key customers to help improve service levels, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Departments and outside bodies as required.
* Assist with managing critical and essential material stock levels. Maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles, taking responsibility for the safe keeping of these.
* Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties.
* Abide by University policies on Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity
* To carry out such multi-disciplinary duties as are required and are commensurate with the level of this post.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Hold a recognised apprenticeship in City and Guilds/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in plumbing or a mechanical discipline/HVAC
* Demonstratable experience of working within a reactive maintenance environment with substantial, relevant post apprentice experience.
* Good understanding of job specific General Health and Safety in the workplace including risk assessments and method statement.
* Ability to work well as part of a team and independently to achieve overall team goals and the ability to prioritise tasks.
* Ability to solve problems and make decisions using initiative to investigate and diagnose problems and to escalate as required at the appropriate level.
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate appropriately with customers and other departments.

Desirable Criteria
* Hold an up-to-date Gas Safe/ACS domestic and commercial qualification (training will be funded for this as necessary).
* Working knowledge of Building Energy Management Systems (BeMS).
* Working knowledge of steam raising plant.
* Working knowledge of pressure systems including compressed air, water etc
* Awareness of water hygiene regulations.
* Awareness of Legionella control regulations
* Fluency in Welsh written and oral
