Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Site Based – Near Weston-super-Mare
Sector: Civil Engineering / Highways
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a project team delivering a major bypass scheme near Weston-super-Mare. This is a site-based role on a high-profile highways infrastructure project, offering the chance to play a key part in the commercial management of a complex civil engineering scheme.
The successful candidate will take commercial ownership of elements of the project, working closely with the project management, engineering and client teams to ensure financial performance, cost control and contractual compliance are achieved.
The Role
* Provide full commercial management of a bypass and associated highways works from commencement through to final account
* Manage project budgets, cost forecasting and financial reporting
* Administer contracts in line with agreed terms and conditions, including change control and variations
* Lead the preparation, submission and agreement of valuations and payment applications
* Manage subcontractor procurement, accounts and performance
* Identify, manage and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
* Support the management of compensation events and change under NEC forms of contract
* Work closely with site and engineering teams to monitor progress and cost against programme
* Prepare and agree final accounts with clients and supply chain partners
* Ensure compliance with company commercial procedures and governance requirements
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
* Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline
* Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on civil engineering or highways projects
* Strong knowledge of NEC contracts, ideally within highways or infrastructure environments
* Experience working on major earthworks, drainage and road construction schemes
* Ability to operate autonomously in a site-based role while supporting and mentoring junior staff
* Strong commercial awareness, negotiation and analytical skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
* Competent IT skills, including MS Excel and standard commercial systems
* Full UK driving licence
