Overview
Job Title: Trust Doctor (ST4+) in Critical Care Medicine with an interest in Follow-Up after critical illness. Based at St Bartholomew's Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. This fixed-term (6 months) role is suitable for trainees in the process of completing training or those seeking additional critical care follow-up experience before a consultant post.
Main duties and responsibilities
The fellowship provides training and experience in delivering follow-up care to patients after critical illness. The follow-up service is led by Dr Segun Olusanya and includes consultants, senior critical care nurses, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals. The weekly follow-up clinic offers face-to-face, video, and telephone consultations; approximately 200-300 consultations are held annually. The post holder will contribute to the ongoing development of the follow-up service to meet changing local needs in light of evolving clinical demands, research, evidence, and guidelines.
Clinical commitments include a general critical care rota (approximately 1 in 9 nights, weekends, long days, and shifts on the cardiothoracic surgical unit). The remainder of time is spent between daily work in the general ICU, cardiothoracic ICUs, and work within the critical care follow-up service. The critical care duties include exposure to complex cardiac surgical patients, cardiogenic shock, and patients requiring mechanical support (including ECMO). A minimum of 1.5 days per week will be spent within the critical care follow-up service.

Person specification
Essential qualifications and experience:
* FRCA/MRCEM/MRCP/FRCS or equivalent
* Minimum ST4 in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) or equivalent
* GMC registered with a license to practise
Desirable:
* Focused echocardiography credentials (FICE, FUSIC, or equivalent)
* Experience in delivering outpatient care (any specialty)
* Experience in cardiothoracic critical care
* ATLS or equivalent
Research, teaching and governance
* Understanding and knowledge of research; ability to interpret research papers
* Good Clinical Practice training
* Teaching experience; ability to deliver training to junior medical and nursing staff (desirable)
* Goverance: understanding the principles of governance and risk management
* Audit or quality improvement experience (desirable)
Skills and personal attributes
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; work well under pressure and adapt to changing clinical environments
* Clear and effective communication in English; good communication with patients and staff
* Self-motivated, empathetic, patient; ability to handle conflict and work within a team
