Consultant Psychiatrist in Acute Care (Cynan Ward)

Job Overview
The Acute Care Service is fully developed and includes a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a male inpatient ward and a female inpatient ward, and a Home Treatment Team for Gwynedd and Anglesey. The service is clinically led by a Responsible Clinician for each inpatient ward and a separate Responsible Clinician covering PICU and HTT. This post will cover the Hergest Male Inpatient ward, providing a substantive consultant‑led acute care service for the two counties.
Main duties
* Direct clinical responsibility (Responsible Clinician) for all male inpatients (except functional OPMH patients) during their admission on the 17‑bed Cynan Ward, Hergest Unit.
* Clinical management for all male inpatients on Cynan Ward, covering the Mental Health Act related roles for the duration of their inpatient stay.
* Attend the daily Acute Care Meeting to discuss patient flow, delayed discharges and potential discharges; the meeting is held every morning and lasts 15–30 minutes.
* Manage complex cases in collaboration with the Home Treatment Team and community CMHTs.
* Provide clinical leadership within the acute care setting.
* Develop care plans and treatment formulations, and give guidance on evidence‑based treatment and effectiveness.

Person Specification
* Qualifications
o MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Desirable criteria
o Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
o MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
o Welsh AC Approval.
* Eligibility
o Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
o Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
o CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
o Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
o Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Desirable eligibility
o In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

o Essential criteria
+ Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
o Desirable criteria
+ Experience in leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
+ Experience of community psychiatric practice.
