Role Overview
We are a dynamic accountancy firm delivering high-quality tax and consulting services. We are seeking a Private Client Tax Manager to join our Private Client team, providing strong technical tax knowledge and strategic commercial advice to clients on tax planning and risk management. The role involves managing a portfolio of private clients and supporting tax advisory work.
Key Responsibilities
Management
- Act as principal manager contact for a portfolio of clients within the Private Client Team, taking responsibility for the review process of all compliance work relating to the client’s affairs.
- Liaise with the Senior Management Team in connection with the management of your client portfolio and development of tax team members as regards productivity, recovery and billing targets and training and development.
- Support the development of team members at all levels including mentoring, assisting in training, undertaking personal development reviews and improving performance and efficiency where relevant.
- Provide timely feedback on work and performance matters.
- Develop new client relationships and assist in business development opportunities generally.
- Competent in all levels of personal tax and able to identify and provide planning opportunities to clients, working and coordinating with other teams.
Tax Technical
- Provide ad hoc advisory services to clients, focusing on HNWI and OMB clients.
- Residence and domicile matters including planning for clients with changes to the remittance basis and the new long term residence regime.
- Trust structuring and the tax implications and benefits of different structures, both offshore and UK.
- International tax planning, including double taxation treaties and foreign tax credits.
- Estate planning to minimise inheritance tax liabilities and ensure efficient wealth transfer.
- In conjunction with the client’s financial advisers devise wealth management strategies.
- Family business advisory, including tax efficient extraction, succession planning and governance structures.
Client Management
- Support the Senior Management Team in developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients as trusted advisors.
Project Management
- Manage the successful delivery of all aspects of the personal tax compliance function for a portfolio of clients.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop the Private Client Tax team, ensuring high standards of performance and professional growth.
Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate tax risks for clients, ensuring all work is technically and ethically compliant.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience in a private client tax managerial role, ideally within a top 30 professional services firm.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of all tax law and regulations in relation to personal tax compliance, with a track record in client advisory work.
- Strong experience in managing client relationships and leading projects.
- Commercial mindedness and managing the financial aspects of client service, such as providing fee quotes, monitoring budgets and billing.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in team development and mentoring.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in tax software (CCH) and tax research platforms (Croner‑i/LexisNexis).
