Fountain Chambers are seeking a Barrister's Clerk to work across both our Family and Criminal teams.
Chambers has 32 members who work in court centres across North Yorkshire and the North East of England on a daily basis. The successful candidate will join our small, busy clerking team to ensure that work is professionally managed.
The role involves:
Diary management - taking into account individual barristers but also the needs of the team as a whole.
Taking bookings for new and existing cases and arranging meetings as needed.
Planning ahead for the next day, next week and next month and juggling commitments.
Speaking with professional clients to co-ordinate professional representation.
Ensuring papersare obtained in good time.
Use of the electronic case management system to maintain good records and keep barristers up-to-date.
General administrative duties such as printing, photocopying etc, as and when needed.
In due course, once the core role has been successfully established, there may also be additional opportunities for responsibilities of fee negotiation, fee chasing and processing, practice development and marketing depending on the interests of the successful candidate.
Whilst previous clerking experience would be welcome and an understanding of the legal profession or the court system would be an advantage, we welcome applications from those with transferrable skills from other professions where logistics and client management have been a staple of their daily role.
Although we are willing to have discussions about hybrid working, this is primarily an office based role in Middlesbrough.
The core hours of work are 8.45amto 5.15 pm (1 hour for lunch, to be arranged in conjunction with other staff and listing meeting commitments), Monday to Friday inclusive, although flexibility to a later finishing time could be considered if required.
Salary will depend on experience with all applications to be sent to personnel@fountainchambers.co.uk.
