Respiratory Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) – Band 3
An exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic band 3 Respiratory Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) to join our expanding Respiratory Laboratory at Aintree University Hospital.
The role will provide developing skills with training in the performance of spirometry and other tests, leading to the ARTP full certificate in spirometry.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform spirometry on patients in diagnostic respiratory clinics under supervision and eventually independently at hospital and satellite clinic sites.
* Assist in the setup, calibration, testing, and system checks of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment in accordance with departmental SOPs.
* Prepare and programme spirometry diagnostic equipment and conduct spirometry clinics to ARTP standards.
* Maintain stock levels using the current inventory recording system and liaise with senior staff regarding ordering.
* Assist in more advanced investigations, such as CPET testing.
* Provide face‑to‑face patient education, instruction, and treatment support, maintaining excellent communication and reporting skills.
* Collaborate closely with the medical team, administrative staff, clinical physiologists, and the multidisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Clinical experience, preferably within the NHS.
* Experience with healthcare diagnostics is an advantage.
* Self‑motivated with strong communication skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team towards the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disorders.
Training & Development
* Initial training in spirometry and other respiratory tests with supervision.
* Progress to independent spirometry performance across North Merseyside.
* Opportunities to obtain ARTP certification and advanced training such as CPET.
Additional Information
Job location: Respiratory Laboratory, Aintree University Hospital. Potential rotation to satellite clinics in South Sefton, Southport, Formby, and other North Merseyside locations.
Employment will be band 3 under NHS terms and conditions.
