National Income Service Income Recovery Officer – 32301
Job Description

The National Income Service (NIS) sends over 100,000 invoices to customers and collects approximately £400m of regulatory charges and fees income into the EA. As the single point of contact for income, the NIS focuses on billing and debt activities across the organisation.
Our ambition is “Funding Environmental Regulation by Maximising Our Income”, modernising our income to make it easier for our customers to do business with us.
We have an exciting up to 12‑month opportunity for two G3 Income Recovery Officers within the National Income Service Business Improvement Team. The role is part of a dispersed team and will work with colleagues across the country. Your primary objective will be supporting our organisational delivery objectives by maximising income recovery.
Responsibilities
* Engage customers through written and verbal contact to discuss outstanding payments.
* Build and maintain strong relationships, focusing on quality, performance and innovation.
* Respond to incidents as required, with additional training and payment.
* Work with team members to develop culture and services with a focus on continuous improvement and teamwork.
Qualifications & Experience
* Motivated, target‑driven, excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Experience in debt collections or customer service roles preferred; confidence in producing and analysing data to support work activities desired.
* Great communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
* Experience with systems to collect and interrogate data, translating evidence into actionable steps.
* Confident sharing findings, themes and trends via written and verbal formats.
* Resilience and ability to flex plans to manage and prioritise a varied workload.
* Focus on delivering good quality outcomes and embracing new innovative ideas.
* Comfortable managing own workload working as part of a dispersed team.

Base location is flexible (subject to local facilities agreement). This is a full‑time post, but part‑time or flexible hours are welcomed. Travel to other Environment Agency offices or meeting venues may occasionally be required. Interviews are expected to take place via Teams on 8 December.
