Mechanical Engineer – Field MEICA
Want to make a difference and help water conveyance within the Thames area’s Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM)? Predominantly working across the Thames, Hertfordshire and North London, the Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (MEICA) Engineers provide vital, in‑house maintenance and repairs on equipment ranging from 1940’s pumps to the latest PLC‑controlled systems. This role protects people, property and the environment.

Responsibilities
* Travel across the region in a work vehicle to conduct routine and reactive maintenance, attend breakdowns and complete small projects such as gearbox and drive system replacements.
* Work a 9‑day fortnight, with every other Friday off.
* Takes an Incident Response role as part of the contract, typically on call for the MEICA team on a 6‑week rotation.
* Use personal electronic devices to accurately record maintenance activities, faults and repairs.
* Provide mechanical assistance to the business to ensure assets are operating, fit for purpose and safe, supporting flood risk management and waterways.
Experience & Skills
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
* Ability to work in a small, dispersed team, potentially as the sole engineer on site.
* Capability to make effective engineering decisions and repairs promptly.
* Confidence accessing assemblies or platforms using ladders and stairwells.
* Ability to work in all weather conditions in urban and rural environments.
* Valid UK manual driving licence and ability to travel to base depot within 60 minutes to respond to incidents.
* Use of supplied Personal Electronic Devices for maintenance records.
* Optional but helpful:
o Experience of hydraulic and mechanical drive systems.
o Nationally recognised Welding qualification.
o Awareness of electronic control systems.
You will be provided with a van, all necessary tools and personal protective equipment to perform your job safely and to the high standards required. Your training and support will be thorough to ensure success.
The role is located at a depot in Oxford or Sunbury, with travel to sites across the region.
