Blythe House Hospice provides free care and support for individuals across North Derbyshire affected by life-limiting illnesses. Services include physical and complementary therapies, support groups, nursing, outpatient clinics, counselling, and bereavement support for both adults and children. The Hospice at Home service and Roaming Car service deliver 24/7 planned and urgent care. Operating costs exceed £2.3million annually, with less than 20% funded by the NHS, requiring significant support through fundraising and retail efforts. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the local community, all services remain completely free of charge.
Role Description
The Fundraising Officer will provide exceptional administration support to the wider Fundraising team and work across all income streams. They will coordinate the processing of all types of donations and ensure the accuracy of the fundraising database. The role will support in receiving new supporters to the hospice, and play a vital role in on-going donor stewardship and supporter care.
This role requires excellent communication skills and a high level of emotional intelligence for supporter care of recently bereaved relatives when taking donations or answering telephone calls. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in a fast‑paced fundraising environment. Principle tasks
* Processing all donations including cash, cheques, card payments, bank transfers, event registrations, and those made through a wide variety of online platforms.
* Assisting the Finance Administrator in the reconciliation of all income received.
* Managing the recording of Gift Aid declarations.
* Assisting with the facilitation of direct marketing appeals by recording income and managing the acknowledgement process.
* Keep supporter records up to date and maintain the accuracy of the database (Beacon).
* Ensuring timely and accurate recording of all donor information and income onto the database through manual input, integration management and import processes.
* Manage fundraising enquiries, communicating with donors face to face, on the telephone and in writing.
* Building and maintaining relationships with fundraisers and donors to enhance their experience with Blythe House Hospice and promote future fundraising support, enhancing the ‘supporter journey’.
* Carrying out administration tasks relating to all income streams, including following‑up enquiries, welcoming those fundraising for the hospice and providing fundraising support, providing post‑event support and acknowledging fundraising achievements.
* Work with the Fundraising Manager to develop a donor journey that encourages long‑term support from individuals.
* Working with the Events and Community Fundraisers to manage the supporter journey; personalising communications whilst driving individuals fundraising targets.
* Make direct asks for support to further the cause.
* Manage the accurate recording of merchandise sales on the database.
* Support other staff members to confidently use Beacon within their work.
* Liaise with supporters who are fundraising to ensure they have everything they need and from time to time attend events to support, including cheque presentations.
* Support the Fundraising Team with the administration aspects involved in the creation and execution of events and campaigns.
* Contribute to the general morale and direction of Blythe House Hospice income generation by participating in team meetings, helping to support other staff in their work and contributing ideas and feedback.
* Have an understanding of the Code of Fundraising Practice and data protection law, and ensure all relevant legislation is followed.
* As part of a team, act as a first point of contact to members of the public, potential supporters, and other professionals, on the phone and via email. This will entail using your own judgement of the situation to provide appropriate advice and pass on queries as appropriate.
* Work alongside all members of the fundraising and wider hospice teams to meet shared goals and foster efficiency and effectiveness.
* Out‑of‑hours work will be required from time to time, to represent Blythe House Hospice at events with the aim of increasing income to, and awareness of, the charity.
