Job Description Unpaid Work Supervisor Annan £24,405.92 - £25,631.17 Dumfries and Galloway Justice Social Work are seeking a staff member to Supervisor Unpaid Work groups in the East of the region. As a key feature of Scotland’s Community Payback Scheme, this is an exciting opportunity to promote better outcomes for individuals that have committed an offence(s). With a wide range of Unpaid Work projects, the role also presents a good opportunity to make positive connections with the community. Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience of working in groups and have some supervisory experience. Working with people who have committed an offence would be an advantage, as would an understanding of the different risks, needs and life experiences of those who have entered the Justice system. The ability to work in a non-judgemental manner and demonstrate prosocial modelling can be highly rewarding. A good understanding of Health and Safety is important, as is the ability to work within Health and Safety regulations. While trade or professional experience is not essential, a variety of skills and interests can prove very beneficial in the Supervisory role. For example, groups can benefit greatly from those with practical skills (e.g. woodwork, painting), an interest in horticulture and/or community engagement experience. Unpaid Work groups can also benefit greatly from the skills and experiences of those attending, and Supervisors should actively create opportunities for individuals to share these. Working days are from 8:30am until 3:45pm, with the service operating 7 days per week. The successful candidate will work 29 hours per week (4 days), including some weekends. While this post is based at our Annan unit, some work will be in the surrounding areas and/or from our Dumfries unit. The posts are considered as Regulated Work Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident. A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
