About the role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the post of Assistant Medical Secretary / Administrator based in the Gastroenterology Department at York Hospital.
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and flexible individual to support the Medical Secretaries and their Consultant Teams. The successful candidate will be a proficient audio‑typist, capable of transcribing complex audio tapes and digital dictation with complicated medical terminology. Excellent administration/secretarial skills and a good understanding of customer relations are required. You will regularly interact with patients, consultants and GPs, using electronic work lists to monitor patient pathways and perform general administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive support to medical secretaries and consultant teams.
* Audio‑type complex medical dictations and recordings.
* Respond to inquiries from patients, consultants and GPs.
* Use electronic work lists to monitor patient pathways and manage administrative tasks.
* Work under pressure, prioritise demands of a busy office and manage workload efficiently.
* Communicate with consultants on a regular basis and work unsupervised.
Qualifications
* GCSE English Language grade C or above (or equivalent).
* Relevant typing qualification (RSA II standard) or demonstrable keyboard skills.
* Previous clerical/administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
* Customer‑relations experience and strong communication skills.
