About the Role
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a dynamic building services consultancy in Bristol, renowned for delivering low-energy, sustainable designs. This role offers the opportunity to work on award-winning projects across education, arts, leisure, commercial, and residential sectors, with a particular emphasis on the conservation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will take a lead role in designing and specifying electrical systems, ensuring high standards of performance, efficiency, and sustainability. You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver fully integrated, environmentally responsible building services solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Specification: Develop detailed electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, security systems, and lightning protection
Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical engineers and other disciplines to deliver coordinated MEP solutions
Sustainability Focus: Contribute to low-energy building designs, including Passivhaus and BREEAM-certified projects
Technical Analysis: Use tools for lighting 3D modelling, thermal, energy, ventilation, and daylight simulations to inform design decisions
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet UK building regulations and industry standards
Client Engagement: Participate in client meetings, providing expert advice and ensuring requirements are met
Mentorship: Support and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment
Skills & Experience
Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
2–5 years’ experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy
Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
Strong understanding of UK regulations and standards (BS 7671, CIBSE)
Experience with energy performance calculations and sustainability assessments
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Full UK driving licence preferred
