Overview
Are you an innovative finite element specialist with experience in modelling and assessing civil or structural engineering structures? Do you excel in developing complex technical solutions to deliver designs for ground-breaking projects? If you want to contribute to advanced numerical (finite element) analysis of steel and reinforced concrete (RC) structures, seismic, blast, and impact design, or you are skilled in first principles engineering and problem solving, this role could be for you. The Nuclear and Power civil and structural team is seeking candidates with advanced structural analysis skills, with experience in post-processing data to carry out design and assessments. This role provides opportunities to utilise and develop your skills with a diverse and experienced team in Bristol and Epsom offices. You will be working a minimum of 3 days per week from a Power New Build office or client office. If you are looking to invigorate your career with projects such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor, and others, particularly in the nuclear field, we invite you to apply.
Your Purpose:
Desirable but not essential criteria include the following qualifications and attributes.
* A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Ability to lead interactions with technical and non-technical stakeholders and build professional relationships with internal and external clients.
* Experience carrying out advanced analysis on RC and steel structures.
* Experience performing advanced examinations across multiple load cases (including seismic, impact, blast and other).
* Background in nuclear and/or other safety-related industries (other fields considered on a case-by-case basis).
* Proficiency with industry-standard finite element analysis software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-DYNA or LUSAS).
* Experience with scripting and automation, preferably using Python.
* Technical rigour and commitment to excellence.
* Problem-solving mindset.
* Experience in checking, interpreting and questioning analysis outputs using first principles.
* Experience with UK, European and American nuclear industry codes and standards, with ability to go beyond codified solutions where appropriate.
* Passion for mentoring and developing engineers.
* Chartership status or active progression towards it.
Your Contribution:
* Lead civil and structural work packages with requirements for advanced structural analysis to underpin the design and assessment of RC and steel structures.
* Engage with clients to provide reports and technical updates, building long-term relationships for business development. Help develop practical and cost-effective solutions for external and internal clients and contribute to staff and internal capability development.
* May be involved in project management duties such as monitoring budgets and programmes for technical work.
