Main duties of the job
The post holder will independently perform and report a wide range of non-invasive vascular investigations including carotid duplex ultrasound, upper and lower limb arterial duplex, venous duplex examinations, abdominal aorta and iliac artery imaging, bypass graft surveillance, and EVAR surveillance scanning.
Additional responsibilities include undertaking ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) testing, toe pressure measurements, and pre-operative vein mapping. The successful applicant will contribute to maintaining high clinical standards, accurate reporting, and excellent patient care within the vascular laboratory service.
The role involves close multidisciplinary working with vascular surgeons, radiologists, nurses, ward teams, and outpatient services across the Trust. There will also be opportunities to support trainees, contribute to service development, participate in quality assurance activities, and help deliver an efficient countywide vascular ultrasound service.
Job responsibilities
The post-holder will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and timely diagnostic vascular ultrasound services within the Worcestershire and Herefordshire Vascular Network. This role requires the use of complex imaging and measurement equipment for direct patient assessment. The post-holder will operate with a high degree of autonomy, managing daily patient workloads and reporting investigation results to referring clinicians as well as advising patients on the appropriate course of action. The post-holder is also expected to provide scientific and clinical support in the field of vascular ultrasound, participate in the departments research and development activities, and contribute to the teaching and training of staff and students.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* AVS or equivalent Vascular Ultrasound qualification.
* MSc in ultrasound related subject.
* Registered Clinical Scientist.
Experience
* Competent in basic vascular ultrasound examinations: extracranial carotid arteries, upper and lower limb arterial and venous assessments, aorto-iliac examinations including post‑EVAR.
* Substantial experience in vascular ultrasound.
* Experience in extended practice such as AVF assessment, iliac vein stent assessment and contrast‑enhanced ultrasound experience.
