Clincial Research Fellow (CRF) in Respiratory Medicine
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Clinical Research Fellow to join the Respiratory Medicine department. The appointee will work at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital as well as the clinical research facility at Sandwell Health Campus. Here they will work with the research team to deliver clinical trials and qualitative research, with a view to completing an MD degree over a two year period.
Applications are welcomed from candidates with MRCP, having completed and achieved Internal Medicine Training year 3 (IMT3) competencies. This job is for a fixed term of 2 years, starting in August-September 2025
The post will enable the successful applicant to develop research skills and complete an MD degree in qualitative respiratory medicine research. They will help to develop local community links and work to improve the healthcare of the local population with respect to chronic respiratory disease.
The appointee will complete NIHR Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and support respiratory clinical research trials. There are no fixed clinical duties. There will be a commitment to deliver a research clinic and there will be opportunity to gain familiarity with practical respiratory procedures.

I nformation about the Specialty
The respiratory inpatients are looked after at Respiratory Hub at MMUH in ward C3. There are 15 consultants who work on the wards in turns for 2 weeks in a row as COW (Consultant of the week). There are 4 SPRs and 6 Trust middle grade specialty doctors who provide cover on wards. There are specialist NIV, TB, cancer, Asthma and ILD nurses who work in clinical teams. The department has dedicated pleural clinic, Acute and domiciliary NIV service and procedure lists including EBUS-TBNA and medical thoracoscopy.

The single-site Acute Hospital will benefit from co-located specialist services which will support the new Emergency Department with dedicated imaging facility and Assessment Units. It will provide state-of-the-art treatment and care for patients from Sandwell and across the region and will become the civic heart of the area and a point of pride for the community.
