Aspira Education are recruiting a GCSE Tutor to work with a Year 11 student preparing for Foundation English, Foundation Maths and Single Science in a structured, alternative learning setting.
This is a fixed-term tutoring placement from 24th February until 26th June
Placement Details
* Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
* Hours: 9:30am – 11:30am (2 hours per session)
* Total: 6 hours per week
* Location: Startyard - Setting: Private booked room with desks and chairs (not a library)
* Year Group: Year 11
* Focus: GCSE preparation – Foundation English, Foundation Maths, Single Science
About the Role
This placement involves working 1:1 with a Year 11 student who can present as guarded and challenging initially.
The successful tutor will:
* Prioritise relationship building in the early stages
* Deliver structured, focused GCSE preparation sessions
* Set clear expectations and boundaries
* Stay calm and measured under pressure
* Build trust through consistency and reliability
* Adapt sessions based on engagement levels
* Use clear, direct communication
The initial focus will be rapport and engagement. Once trust is established, the student is expected to respond positively to academic support.
This role requires a tutor with presence, resilience and quiet confidence.
What We're Looking For
We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:
* Qualified Teachers (QTS)
* Experienced GCSE Tutors
* Maths / English / Science Graduates
* Behaviour Mentors with strong academic delivery experience
* Alternative Provision or SEMH setting experience
* Youth work or mentoring backgrounds with subject knowledge
You do not need to be a fully qualified teacher, but you must be confident delivering Foundation-level GCSE content across the listed subjects.
Ideal Experience
* GCSE Foundation English and Maths curriculum knowledge
* Experience supporting disengaged or behaviourally challenging pupils
* Ability to deliver structured 1:1 sessions
* Strong classroom presence
* Calm and assertive communication style
All Applicants Must Have
* Right to work in the UK
* A clear Enhanced DBS (on the update service preferred)
* Two recent references
* Willingness to complete free safeguarding training provided by Aspira Education
* Availability to commit to all listed days until end of placement
