Job Title: Caretaker Location: Northumberland Salary: £13 – £17 per hour (depending on experience) Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time Are you a dependable and proactive individual with experience in maintenance and site management? GSL Education are currently recruiting reliable and hardworking Caretakers to work in schools across Northumberland. This rewarding role involves supporting the day-to-day maintenance and smooth running of school premises. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school environment remains safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities of a Caretaker: Carry out general maintenance and minor repair work across the school site Ensure the premises are clean, safe, and secure at all times Open and lock school buildings when required Conduct regular health and safety and site inspections Support with setting up rooms and facilities for lessons and events Monitor and report maintenance issues promptly Manage site equipment and maintenance supplies where necessary Work collaboratively with school staff and external contractors Caretaker Requirements: Previous experience in a caretaker, maintenance, or site assistant role is desirable Good practical maintenance and DIY skills Understanding of health and safety procedures Reliable, organised, and proactive attitude Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and problem-solving skills An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing a new application.
