Flip The Script Theatre Company is currently seeking Directors (of varying experience) to enhance our pool of Directors. The Artistic Director/CEO (Callum Shallcross) is in the process of planning our premiere season of work, and we are eager to find ambitious directors for some of our upcoming productions. Whether you have little or some experience as a Director, we would be delighted to hear from you. We are looking for Directors aged 16 and above. Flip the Script – Job Description: Position of Director (Freelance) Job descriptions have been written to help produce an effective company. They are written statements of what the jobs involve, what the team are expected to do and the responsibilities involved in the jobs. They thereby provide a basic framework for the discharging of professional and managerial responsibilities. These basic frameworks provide a means by which job-holders and persons assuming the responsibility for the job-holders can mutually discuss the nature of the job. Job descriptions also allow others in the company to understand what the jobs entail. They are not meant to be static or exclusive; rather, the nature of the artistic profession means that flexibility in jobs is desirable and inevitable. It is the spirit in which jobs are performed which is important to an effective theatre company. Responsible To To be responsible to the Artistic Director/CEO. Main Purpose To lead the creation of a production, formulating and executing your vision, working collaboratively with a creative team supported by the Artistic Director/CEO. Pre-Production Tasks To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members of the team, reporting anything of concern to the Senior Producer or the Artistic Director/CEO. Read and analyse the script and create your artistic vision for the show. You will collaborate with the Artistic Director/CEO and your creative team during this time. Lead production meetings ensuring your vision is communicated to the wider creative team. Work with the Artistic Director/CEO, Producer and Production Manager to set the production and rehearsal schedule. Lead and Participate in the casting process. Rehearsal Tasks Lead rehearsals to fully realise your vision for the production. Ensure decisions made are in line with your production budget. Lead technical rehearsals working collaboratively with your creative and technical teams. Production Tasks Attend all previews until the show is “locked”. Note each performance and communicate notes and/or changes to the cast and crew. Contribute to the production “bible” in the case of a touring production to ensure continuity across the run of the production. June 2025
