We are seeking a Specialist Grade Doctor to join the Intensive Service. This is a newly created post to work alongside the part‑time Consultant within the team.
Based at Hillview Lodge, the Specialist Grade doctor will play a key role in the multi‑disciplinary Team providing advice and assessment of patients under the Intensive service, liaising and working closely with the Inpatient Unit to assist with discharge planning, as well as working in partnership with other primary and secondary care services.
Main duties of the job
* Actively participate in team and personal caseload management.
* Assess and treat patients as requested by staff, working closely with GPs to ensure continuity of care between primary and secondary sectors.
* Review patients on the Intensive Service caseload.
* Deliver direct interventions to service users at a level of intensity according to need, including those who require an assertive approach and who are difficult to engage. This will include ongoing assessment, diagnoses (including review and clarification), and treatment of mental and physical health needs.
* Attend twice daily team meetings.
* Hold CPA meetings for outpatients.
* Visit patients in their own place of residence.
* Liaise with other parts of the service, GPs and non‑NHS organisations wherever applicable.
* Liaise with the community and inpatient services as appropriate to facilitate the smooth handover of patients between services.
* Participate in mental health assessment for patients opened to the Intensive Service.
* Supervise and support resident doctors on placement within the Intensive Service team.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Additional clinical qualification.
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of confirmation of appointment.
* Completed a minimum of 12 years of medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification.
* A minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades, including overseas, will also be accepted.
* Section 12 approval (or within 6 months of appointment) if not already having Approved Clinician status and be on the AC register.

* PGCME or equivalent / aspiration to attain a postgraduate teaching qualification.
* Aspiration to work towards consultant grade via Portfolio Pathway accreditation route.
* Act as a coach or mentor for medical and non‑medical practitioners.
* Teach undergraduate students.
Patient Safety and Quality Improvement
* Evaluate and audit own and others' clinical practice and act on findings.
* Implement quality improvement methods and repeat quality improvement cycles to refine practice; design projects and evaluate their impact.
* Take prompt action where there is an issue with the safety or quality of patient care, raise and escalates concerns through clinical governance systems when necessary.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams to manage risk and issues across organisations and settings, with respect for and recognition of the roles of other health professionals.
* Lead new practice and service redesign in response to feedback, evaluation and need, promoting best practice.

Pay: £100,870 to £111,441 per annum, pro rata.
