The Theatres and Anaesthetic Directorate are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior ODP / Deputy Sister (Band 6) to support the Clinical practice education team within Theatres at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust .

We currently have a vacancy for a committed and enthusiastic individual to manage an established team in delivering high quality care that is rapidly adapting to meet the needs of a diverse local population.

Successful applicants should have previous experience in educating and mentoring within Theatres, good communication skills and enjoy working in a swiftly changing and challenging environment. You will be required to work as part of a motivated team as well as being able to work on own initiative. Main Theatres operates a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week service.

Main duties of the job

* To provide skilled specialist assistance in the delivery of high quality, cost effective patient care throughout the Operating Department
* To participate as an integral member of the theatre team giving leadership and guidance to less experienced staff.
* Participate in the Theatre Co-ordinator rota when required.
* To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence-based practice, which will improve the quality of care and meet the needs of the patient.
* Contribute to an effective, motivated, and competent workforce and ensure that high quality standards are maintained and developed.
* To co-ordinate and support completion of internal training competency packs.
* Supervise others and participate in their education and development.
* To participate in clinical developments within the unit
* To contribute to audit and research including monthly WHO audits.
* To contribute to the development of performance review in accordance with Trust policy.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
* To participate in the formulation of off-duty and allocation for the students across all areas.
* To assist with the senior team in the interviewing of new staff and students at university

* Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
* Evidence of continuing professional development

* Teaching Course / Qualification

* Significant experience at Band 5 in surgery or theatres

* Understanding of professional nursing issues
