Senior Mechanical Engineer (Advanced Sensing Systems)

A leading Defence prime consultancy are looking to onboard a security cleared Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team to support a next generation defence/aerospace product. Due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement to be based onsite at least One day a week (This will fluctuate dependant on project needs) in the Basildon HQ and travel to client sites around the U.K as/when required, this could also require overnight travel.
Key skills
* Security cleared (SC)
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
* Proven experience in mechanical design for electronic products
* Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools (PTC Creo preferred)
* Ability to perform first-pass structural analysis and collaborate with specialist analysts
* Experience designing electro-mechanical or opto-mechanical systems
* Knowledge of electrical screening, grounding, and subsystem integration
* Proficiency in BS8888 drawing standards, including detail and assembly drawings
* Experience with tolerance analysis and engineering calculations
* Experience designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling for assembly and testing
* Familiarity with DfX principles (Design for Manufacture, Assembly, Test, Integration and Sustainability)
* Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment
* Knowledge of cable harness design, connector selection, and strain relief methods
Key Responsibilities
* Support senior engineers in delivering technical solutions across critical programmes
* Develop mechanical design solutions in line with company and international standards
* Design with a focus on quality, safety, reliability, testability, and sustainability
* Perform detailed mechanical design activities, including calculations and tolerance analysis
* Produce Manufacturing Data Packs in accordance with BS8888 and GD&T principles
* Generate and manage Bills of Materials (BoM) within PLM systems
* Participate in design reviews in line with industry and organisational standards
* Deliver engineering outputs on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
