Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (Taunton site) have a vacancy for two Clinical Teaching Fellows (ST1/2 level) in Critical Care at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton to commence on 7 August 2024 for one year. This is a combined clinical and teaching post, ideally suited to an individual who has completed an F2 year or equivalent, and wishes to gain formal experience in undergraduate teaching and medicine prior to commencing Core Training. On average, half of the working week will be clinical and the other half devoted to teaching Bristol / Plymouth medical students and educational learning. The post holder will be encouraged to embark on a course leading to a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, which will be funded by the Academy. There is a real need to ensure that students receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. Main duties of the job The clinical half of the post will be based in the critical care department. The successful candidates will gain experience in all aspects of critical care and encouraged to keep an up-to-date portfolio for CT applications. Interview practise and help with the portfolio is available, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to take part in surgical audits and other projects. The post is on the out of hours rota. This is not a recognised training post but provides an excellent opportunity to develop teaching and clinical skills as well as portfolio preparation. The post holders will help facilitate the delivery of the University of Bristol and Peninsula Medical School undergraduate curriculum to year 3, 4 & 5 medical students at Musgrove Park Hospital. • Clinical teaching fellows (CTFs) deliver core curriculum content, act as tutors and are involved with the assessment of medical students. • The post holder will be expected to act as a role model and mentor to the medical students. • The post holder will help develop teaching materials. • Clinical teaching fellow are expected to be able to deliver several types of teaching including induction sessions, small group tutorials, clinical-based history and examination sessions, facilitation of inter-Academy Hub sessions, Bedside teaching, Teaching clinics, Clinical reasoning skills and simulation based teaching.
