Project Officer Location: Barnsley - 3 days onsite Client: Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council Contract Type: Temporary (3 months) Hours: Full time 37 hours per week Salary: £18.35 per hour (Umbrella) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Project Officer to join the Early Start and Families Service within Children’s Services. The role involves supporting a range of projects including family hubs and early years childcare. The successful candidate will contribute to service development, strategy, performance, and quality improvement aimed at enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of children and families. Key Responsibilities Assist with project management and coordination of resources to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery. Plan and manage projects within a formal programme and project management framework. Provide advice and guidance on complex people-related project issues. Maintain project risk registers and assist in issue resolution. Support performance management and data analysis to promote continuous improvement. Identify and implement processes, technology, and systems to enhance service delivery. Maintain documentation libraries for effective project management. Prepare reports and presentations. Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Stay informed on local and national developments relevant to children’s services. Comply with health and safety, legal, and financial regulations. Undertake other duties as required by management. Experience & Knowledge Substantial experience supporting project delivery. Experience in a project management environment. Familiarity with formal project management methodologies. Experience in service improvement and stakeholder engagement. Knowledge of children’s services transformation. Understanding of project management methodologies and council services. Proficiency in Microsoft applications. Awareness of challenges in children’s social care. Skills & Competencies Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in documentation and presentation creation. Ability to research, analyse data, and produce reports. Excellent organisational and time management skills. Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
