A prestigious secondary school in Bristol with a strong track record in Science education is looking for an experienced and motivated Second in Department for Chemistry to support the Head of Science and help lead a thriving Chemistry team. This is a key leadership role that offers the chance to shape curriculum delivery and raise student outcomes in an ambitious and collaborative environment.

Your Role

*

Collaborate with the Head of Science to lead the Chemistry team, ensuring consistently high standards of teaching and learning

*

Deliver engaging and challenging Chemistry lessons across KS3–5, tailoring approaches to meet diverse learner needs

*

Assist in designing and reviewing schemes of work, assessment policies, and intervention strategies

*

Support and mentor teaching staff, including ECTs and those new to the department

*

Oversee laboratory safety procedures and coordinate technician support for practical activities

*

Lead enrichment initiatives such as STEM clubs, Chemistry Olympiad preparation, and community science engagement

Ideal Candidate

*

Qualified Chemistry teacher with QTS and a degree in Chemistry or related field

*

Experience teaching GCSE and A-Level Chemistry with proven success in raising achievement

*

Strong leadership skills or clear ambition to develop leadership within a collaborative team

*

Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a passion for science education

*

Commitment to inclusive teaching and personalised student support
