As a General Maintenance Operative, your role is to ensure the effective and efficient maintenance and repair of assets maintained by the Facilities & Estates team. This includes carrying out a wide range of tasks such as general repairs, housekeeping, basic maintenance, and minor works across all LEL sites. You will also support operational activities, contribute to site safety and compliance, and help maintain a clean, functional, and well-presented working environment. Flexibility, reliability, and a proactive approach are essential in this hands-on role within an industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities:
✓ Perform general housekeeping and maintenance duties including sweeping, shovelling, hosing, flushing toilets and tanks, and clearing debris across the site using mechanical and mobile plant equipment (e.g., forklift trucks, scissor lifts).
✓ Daily housekeeping and removal of waste, debris, and materials to ensure a clean and hazardfree working environment.
✓ Carrying out loading and unloading as required, using appropriate equipment as necessary.
✓ Undertake basic decorating (e.g., painting) and handyman tasks including minor repairs, woodwork, and furniture assembly.
✓ Carrying out portering duties as directed, including portage of hazardous substances.
✓ Complete all relevant documentation in line with planned preventative maintenance systems using D365, including recording faults, adding completion notes, and ensuring point-of-work risk assessments are completed.
✓ Carry out landscaping activities using equipment such as lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, strimmer’s, and leaf blowers.
✓ Assist in unblocking toilets, sinks, and drains as needed.
The Person Specification:
✓ Experience in labouring or maintenance roles within industrial, building, or civil engineering environments.
✓ Comfortable working in outdoor and varied weather conditions.
✓ Proficient with hand and power tools; basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or HVAC systems is an advantage.
✓ Well-organised, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
✓ Good communication skills and ability to follow supervisor instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
✓ Full driving licence required; experience with small plant/machinery is advantageous.
✓ Flexible and adaptable to different tasks and changing priorities on site. Commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
