Job Title: Drainage Engineer / Groundworker
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Drainage Engineer / Groundworker to join our team. This role involves a wide range of groundworks and drainage tasks including the installation of soakaways, French drains, foul and surface water systems, confined space operations, and supporting drainage services such as unblocking and repairing systems. The ideal candidate will also have proven experience in excavating and relaying concrete, particularly around drainage reinstatement works and structural repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
Drainage Installation & Groundworks:
* Install soakaways, French drains, and other sub-surface drainage systems.
* Excavate trenches and lay foul and surface water drainage systems.
* Install Manholes, Inspection Chambers, Gullies etc.
* Excavate and prepare areas for new concrete bases, reinstatements, or structural slabs related to drainage works.
* Break out and relay concrete surfaces (e.g. slabs, footpaths, driveways) after drainage repairs.
* Mix, pour, level, and finish concrete to a high standard
Drainage Repairs & Maintenance:
* Locate and repair damaged or blocked foul and surface water drains.
* Excavate and replace damaged drainage pipes and chambers.
* Conduct patch lining, pipe jointing, and section replacements.
Confined Space Work:
* Safely enter and work in confined spaces (e.g. manholes, chambers), adhering to safety protocols and using required PPE.
Support Services for Drainage Engineers:
* Assist with unblocking drains using rods and high-pressure water jetting equipment.
* Support with CCTV drain inspections, descaling, and other maintenance procedures.
* Carry out general labouring duties as required to support drainage operations.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
* Comply with all relevant health and safety regulations, including confined space and manual handling.
* Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including safe handling and operation of tools and equipment.
Requirements:
* Experience in drainage groundworks and reinstatement tasks.
* Proficient in breaking out, preparing, and relaying concrete surfaces (e.g., driveways, footpaths, slabs).
* Confined Space Entry certification (preferred or willing to obtain).
* Full UK driving licence (required).
* CSCS card (preferred).
* Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience operating plant machinery (e.g., mini diggers, breakers).
* Familiarity with water authority standards and drainage building regs.
* Experience working on both domestic and commercial drainage systems.
* Awareness of environmental considerations relating to drainage and concrete works.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £14.40-£16.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
