About the Team
The Skibo gardens offer a stunning and diverse horticultural landscape, from sweeping lawns and serene arboretums to vibrant glasshouses and immaculate ornamental flower beds.
At the heart of the estate lies our beautiful walled garden, bursting with colour and brimming with fresh produce, including apples, plums, peas, salad leaves, and radishes - all grown for use in the Club's kitchens.
Our Victorian glasshouses nurture thriving crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies, courgettes, and delicate micro-herbs, cultivated with care throughout the seasons.
Flowing down from the castle's terrace, the formal gardens feature elegant rose beds, fragrant lavender, and richly planted herbaceous borders that provide seasonal colour and year-round visual appeal.
Our dedicated Gardens team tends every corner of the estate's formal grounds, undertaking a wide variety of tasks - from grass cutting and pruning to planting and cultivation - to ensure the gardens are kept to the highest standard.
In close collaboration with other departments, the team also supplies our chefs with fresh fruits and vegetables which proudly feature on the Club's seasonal menus.
About this Role
As a Gardener, you will:
* Work as part of a dedicated gardening team, maintaining all areas of the estate's formal grounds.
* Work Monday to Friday, with weekend shifts on a rotational basis.
* Undertake a wide range of horticultural tasks, including grass cutting, cultivation, planting, and pruning.
* Ensure the gardens are consistently well-presented, tidy, and reflective of the estate's high standards.
* Support the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, working with your team to supply fresh produce for the club's chefs and their seasonal menus.
* Contribute to the overall upkeep and enhancement of the estate's landscape, supporting both aesthetic and functional gardening needs.
Who We Are Looking For
* You're a motivated and enthusiastic individual with availability to work occasional weekend shifts on a rotational basis.
* You're a reliable team player with strong communication skills — someone who's committed, dependable, and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
* You're always ready to lend a hand, supporting your immediate team and collaborating with other departments across Skibo.
* You take pride in following instructions from your team leader and enjoy knowing your work contributes to the success of the department.
* Ideally, you'll have some previous gardening experience and be familiar with using relevant tools and machinery.
* While not essential, having spraying certificates, formal qualifications, or further experience in horticulture would be a welcome bonus.
