Occupational Therapist – Band 5 rotational post

Overview
This role offers a 6‑month rotation across a range of areas including Stroke, Complex Care, Frailty, Medicine, Surgery, Trauma, Orthopaedics and Community services.
Main duties
* Hold and manage an active caseload within the current rotation at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital or Community Trust base.
* Liaise and provide accurate feedback to senior therapy staff, supporting the allocation of the caseload to ensure appropriate skill mix and timely assessment and discharge.
* Support therapy support workers, therapy assistants and students as appropriate.
* Contribute to effective team working within the rotational area and the wider MDT.
* Work bank holidays and 7‑day working as part of a roster system as required.
* Develop and apply proactive skills within the integrated therapy team and provide advice or cover on other trust sites as required.
Rotations and Clinical Areas
* Acute and General/Specialty Medicine Services – Develop skills in acute illness management, manual handling, equipment provision, end‑of‑life and palliative care discharge planning.
* Acute Inpatient Stroke Ward – Develop skills, knowledge and experience of acute stroke and facilitate discharge planning in line with national guidelines.
* General and Vascular Surgery – Facilitate discharge planning, introduce specialist equipment provision and support community services.
* Trauma and Orthopaedics/Elective Orthopaedics – Gain confidence in assessments, equipment provision and cognitive assessments following acute traumatic brain injury, and participate in community visits.
* Complex Care – Work with patients with complex neurological conditions, perform cognitive and mood assessments and support upper‑limb plinting.
* GEMS/Frailty and Elderly Care – Develop skills in geriatric medicine, person‑centred dementia care, complex discharge planning and multi‑factorial assessment.
* Community Partnerships – Possible rotation into community services such as reablement, neighbourhood teams and community hospitals.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
* Evidence of recent acute hospital OT experience.
* Knowledge of current best practice in OT.
* Understanding of professional ethics and their application.
* Basic knowledge of health legislation and clinical governance principles.
* Health, safety and risk awareness.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Knowledge of Word and Excel.
Qualifications
* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* Active or pending HCPC Registration.
* Membership with RCOT.
Experience
* Recent NHS experience.
* Varied clinical placement experience.
* Analytical approach to clinical situations.
* Experience within a multidisciplinary team.
* Discharge planning experience, particularly acute discharge planning.
