Overview

We are delighted to seek applications for an Advanced Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Training) with extended tissue dissection in the IPS Histopathology laboratory based on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site. In addition to the tissue dissection element of the role the successful candidate will lead in Training for IPS on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site. This post is a unique collaboration between IPS and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is a joint-venture pathology service between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (AGH), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BRI) and Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high-quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users.

The IPS laboratory on the BRI site receives specimen samples ranging from category A to E. As a Advanced Specialist BMS with the Diploma in Expert Practice in Histological Dissection, you will work with other Biomedical scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants, as well as other members of the department's clinical team, dealing with a range of specimen types covering sub-specialist areas such as gastrointestinal, gynaecological, head and neck, osteoarticular and urology specimens. You will undertake the role of expert dissector in a range of Histopathology sub-specialities and will achieve competency in the dissection of category A, B and C specimens.


Responsibilities

* Lead in Training for IPS on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site.
* Dissect a range of Histopathology specimens with competency in category A, B and C dissection.
* Collaborate with Biomedical Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants and clinical team members across sub-specialist areas including gastrointestinal, gynaecological, head and neck, osteoarticular and urology.
* Serve as expert dissector in relevant Histopathology sub-specialities.
* Work with colleagues to maintain high-quality pathology services as part of the IPS partnership.
* liaise with Consultant staff, Advanced/Expert Practitioners and motivate self-directed learning.
* Manage and use documentation such as SOPs and audits (desirable).


Qualifications

* HCPC Registration.
* IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent.
* IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histopathological Dissection.
* Minimum of three years post-registration experience.
* Member/Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.


Other requirements

* The department and BTHFT will support and guide the training; occasional travel to other IPS sites will be required in fulfilment of the role.
