About the Role

We're looking for an experienced lawyer in UK information/data law. You possess reliable legal judgment and appreciation of legal risk. As a creative and strategic thinker, you're able to see legal issues in their context and advise accordingly. You can conduct sound analysis and use secure legal research to produce timely, fit‑for‑purpose advice. As a lawyer, client care really matters to you – you are a strong communicator, both orally and in writing, and you can manage your own practice and workload, meeting emergencies and hard deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.


Salary, Grade and Experience

* £61,124 National, £63,189 Croydon/London (3+ years PQE)
* £51,541 National and Croydon/London (less than 3 years PQE)
* Grade 7 (3+ years PQE), Legal Officer (less than 3 years PQE)


Key Responsibilities

* Advise Data Protection Officers, government digital specialists and policy officials on policy and operational aspects of data law, including processing, protection and privacy.
* Help clients accurately identify, assess and mitigate risk, identifying practical solutions.
* Develop and maintain excellent client relationships while growing your expertise in data law and related public and administrative law.
* Support cross‑cutting work across agencies and contribute to the department’s broad legal agenda.


Qualifications

* 3+ years post‑qualification experience (or less for the Legal Officer grade) in UK information or data law.
* Strong legal judgement, risk assessment, and ability to translate legal issues into practical advice.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Capacity to manage workload, meet deadlines and operate in a fast‑paced environment.
* Must hold or be willing to obtain BPSS and SC level clearance (required for this role).
