Job summary

We are seeking a motivated, dynamic, and passionate Band 7 Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurse to work within our North Bedfordshire Team, based in Clapham. Staff are expected to cover across the bases if needed.


Responsibilities

Experience and an NMP qualification in the field of palliative care is desirable, but a willingness to learn and contribute is more important.

Must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle to carry out duties. You will be required to cover 7 days a week between the hours of 08:00‑18:00.

Person Specification


Education (Essential)

* Registered Nurse
* Evidence of continuing professional development


Education (Desirable)

* First degree
* Evidence of further study in palliative/end‑of‑life care equivalent to masters level or willingness to work towards
* Nurse Prescribing Qualification or willingness to work towards
* Evidence of continuing professional development


Other (Essential)

* Current driving licence
* Ability to travel across sites and across Trust boundaries to attend meetings, etc.


Experience (Essential)

* Extensive experience in caring for patients with palliative and end‑of‑life care needs
* Extensive experience of complex assessment of health and social needs
* Experience of clinical leadership
* Demonstrable experience in supporting and educating teams, including teaching pre‑ and post‑registration students
* Ability to communicate highly sensitive and complex information with patients, their relatives and carers, and with colleagues at all levels
* Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, including internal and external agencies
* Excellent written communication skills, including record keeping, report writing, data collection, and evaluations


Experience (Desirable)

* Community nursing experience
* Knowledge of national and local agenda for community nursing and end‑of‑life care
* Knowledge of NHS legislation, underpinning palliative and cancer care, long‑term conditions and professional practice


Knowledge & Skills (Essential)

* Effective interpersonal and communication skills to persuade, influence and negotiate in order to overcome barriers
* Excellent written communication skills, including record keeping, report writing, data collection, and evaluations
* Ability to assess, review and evaluate complex patient situations
* Ability to work autonomously
* Ability to manage multiple and complex caseloads, prioritising care and monitoring quality accordingly
* Ability to collect and interpret data in relation to patient activity and nursing care
* Ability to manage frequent exposure to highly sensitive and emotional issues such as end‑of‑life care plans, deterioration of conditions and bereavement, with upset and distressed children and relatives
* Experience of partnership working
* Ability to undertake a broad range of nursing skills, e.g., syringe drivers, basic wound care


Knowledge & Skills (Desirable)

* Knowledge of national and local agenda for community nursing and end‑of‑life care
* Knowledge of NHS legislation, underpinning palliative and cancer care, long‑term conditions and professional practice
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills to persuade, influence and negotiate in order to overcome barriers
