Overview
Waterwhelm is currently recruiting for a Plant Operator position to join our growing team in Edinburgh, UK on a permanent staff basis. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and small but evolving team in the delivery of water treatment, desalination and hydrogen projects. Our technology achieves the world’s lowest-ever rate of electricity consumption for water re-use and desalination.
The Role
The successful candidate will act as a Plant Operator and have responsibility for the operation of pilot and commercial plants across a range of Waterwhelm's current projects. The Plant Operator would enjoy hands-on activities such as commissioning, operation and maintenance of plants. We are looking for an individual with the drive and commitment to make a genuine difference to our performance on projects across pilot plant operations to full-scale commercial units, to ensure that Waterwhelm continues to offer the most sustainable and efficient water re-use and desalination technology. Applicants with strong technical and practical skills and relevant experience are welcome. At least 2-5 years of previous experience in an operational role will be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
As Plant Operator, you are expected to have excellent knowledge in chemical/process/manufacturing plant operations. Responsibilities include:
* Contribute to the Engineering team in plant commissioning, operations, maintenance and performance analysis
* Operate pilot plants and commercial plants in the UK and internationally
* Undertake test studies on pilot plants to improve the performance of the technology
* Execute mechanical installation activities within budget and schedule, as well as maintaining technical integrity of plants
* Work closely with the engineering team to deliver the production schedule, advising on timescales to enable meeting our clients’ requirements
* Review and develop an understanding of process descriptions, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and equipment specifications
* Ensure a high standard of safety is achieved and Environmental and Quality Assurance procedures are followed
* Perform safety related risk assessments and other reviews as required
* Contribute where necessary to review of supplier specifications, quotations and drawings
* Provide job and condition reports, identifying correct method of rectifying faults
* Participate in internal and external meetings and discussions with client engineers and operators
* Assist as required in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals
Skills / Qualifications
* Relevant process operator qualifications, or relevant engineering / manufacturing university degree, HND or other relevant qualifications
* Experience of commissioning and operating plants
* High level of troubleshooting capability relating to plant equipment and operations
* Able to assemble and commission a range of plant apparatus and equipment
* A self-motivated, proactive individual with high achievement drive and initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Analytical skills to advance new technologies
* Flexibility to comply with organisational dynamics and adaptable to operational changes
