Job overview

Working closely with the Lead Nurse for Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Services you will be able to deputise, as required, to ensure the operational maintenance and strategic leadership for the Thrombosis and Anticoagulation services across the Trust.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide empowering, engaging and inclusive nurse leadership for the thrombosis and anticoagulation nursing team, inclusive of all other healthcare professionals and professional bodies in the management of patients undergoing treatment within this specialism
2. Lead and manage the nurse-led outpatient clinic and act as an expert resource and advisor to other health care professionals whilst being actively involved in the development and training of the Thrombosis and Anticoagulation nurses.
3. Provide up to date, evidence based, clinical Thrombosis and Anticoagulation advice and guidance to all service users and stakeholders within your specialist area. Prescribe within your specialist field as required for your patient cohort.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

4. Lead in responsibility for the day-to-day system management of the Trust “Dawn” Anticoagulant computerised dosing system and manage software changes expertly, mitigating any risks to service users.
5. Maintain patient safety whilst balancing changing operational service and Trust demands in a developing and fast paced expert clinical service.
6. Actively engage and lead in inspirational, transformative and innovative ways of working that reflect developing service needs and one aligned UHSussex Trust vision for anticoagulation and thrombosis service users care
7. Work collaboratively with service leads and colleagues to establish clear and effective service guidelines and policies, whilst ensuring quality patient care is maintained at all times.
8. Work collaboratively with Haematology and Thrombosis Consultants to establish and maintain timely and effective weekly multidisciplinary meetings
9. Ensure high standards of patient care at all times, challenging and ensuring others challenge poor practice, in accordance with NMC Professional Code (2015)
10. Ensure local plans support all clinical quality external accreditation, for example Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards, Commissioning for Quality Innovation (CQUIN) member of Trust wide Thrombosis Committee and work closely with Thrombosis Clinical Lead to support service enhancement with scope to develop a nurse led VTE follow-up clinic.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential criteria

11. Nursing Degree or substantial specialist nurse experience in this field
12. Non-medical prescribing qualification
13. Anticoagulation and DAWN experience
14. Substantive experience of working in anticoagulation or VTE
15. NMC registration
16. Evidence of leadership experience as Band 7
17. Considerable experience within a specialist role at a band 6/7 level

Desirable criteria

18. Leadership qualification
19. Anticoagulation Course
20. Evidence of short courses at Masters Level or equivalent evidence
21. Postgraduate qualification relevant to the specialism or equivalent
